Our History

On 12th December 1944, it was decided to inaugurate a scheme for commemorating the peace following World War 11. For that purpose, the villages of Hemingford Grey and Hemingford Abbotts should combine. The scheme intended was to be such that it could include the thought of thanksgiving for victory, a tribute to those who served their country and the provision of something which would be of permanent value to them, their children and their neighbourhood. The form which the memorial took is that of a playing field to serve the needs of the two villages – The Hemingford Peace Memorial Field. Lt. Col. S. D Haywood generously gifted the field known as The Vineyard for the purpose.

Over the years there have been many activities based at The Pavilion. Currently there are 4 National Standard squash courts, 3 all-weather tennis courts, a National Standard bowls green, 2 football pitches and a cricket square. There are also 2 meeting rooms and a lounge bar.
